How to create line chart having data with > or <.

Example following data :

Date     result

1 Jan.   10

2 Feb.   >5

3 Mar.   <1

In some software I saw it represents by up or down arrow.

I'm going to preface this by saying I could be wrong and may be corrected, I'm ok with that.

When approaching a problem like this I think, if I were to approach this manually how would I do this? If I were to approach it manually I would find the actual numbers to plot because where would I plot the line for < or >? I don't think it's possible, I think you need a more precise number to plot it in a graph. If I'm wrong I'd love to know the answer because I'm always fascinated by what Excel can do.

Good luck!

Hi Zaki,

I agree with Jessica. I'm not sure where you'd plot the line for >5 and <1 and it be clear what it represents. It would be helpful if you could share a screenshot of the chart you've seen that illustrates this.

In labware LIMS charting, it is presented as the number itself with arrow up for > and down arrow for <.

But in excel it represented as zero value.

Give it a try.

I wonder if the same can be done in excel.

Well I can draw actual number then draw the arrow manually, but the problem is, this chart is pivot chart, so it is dynamic and not static.

You can do an IF formula using symbols in a separate cell in your sheet and then reference that helper cell with a text box to make your arrow dynamic.
