Hi,
I have taken over the production of several dashboards from the person that authored them. The dashboards mainly use csv files as the data source. These files are basically imported as they are. Relationships between the tables are then created in the BI desktop. Lots of measures and calculated columns are added. There are multiple pages in each dashboard and each dashboard contains many visuals. Is there any way to audit these dashboards?
The main thing I need to ascertain is what fields from the source files are being used. Some of the source files have 100+ fields but I thing that only a small percentage of these are actually being used in the dashboards. In addition where measures have been created or calculated columns used they seem to work on a hierarchical basis, a visual will refer to a table field but when you look at that field it will be a formulated field which in turn might refer to another field that is also calculated and so on and so on. Without clicking on every visual on every page and following every field from start to end I don't know how else to do this. Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Donnacha
Hi Donnacha,
That's a tricky one. In lesson 7.04 there is a lesson on lineage view, but this won't tell you what fields are in use, only how data is connected.
There is an add-in called Measure Killer that will remove unused measures and columns that you can get here (I haven't used it): https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/xp8jn7n3rg4n6h?hl=en-US&gl=US
Be sure to backup your file before running it.
There is also a 'Power BI Helper' here that will tidy up redundant fields and measures: Power BI Helper - RADACAD
Going forward, please post your questions in the community tab in the course LMS. This forum is retired for course members.
Kind regards,

@mynda thanks for your response; I appreciate your help.
Noted re any further questions. I had looked on the course originally and had missed the 'discuss' tab but will use this moving forwards now I have found it.
Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks,
Donnacha
