We are trying to calculate productivity and have very specific Actions that have been timed.  When we time the Action, we record it to the nearest quarter minute.  We then need to calculate an average for each Action.  Our results aren't making sense to me.  The total for these Actions is 139 minutes and 0 seconds.  There are 17 different timings.   If I average them, it comes to 8.18.  Which is not what we want.  I'm sure it comes down to how we format the information, but I can't figure out how to fix it.

7.00 4.25
9.75 4.75
4.00 16.25
8.25 4.00
7.00 12.00
3.75 8.00
5.25 24.75
9.75 7.00
3.25

Hi Kathy,

You're having trouble because these values aren't time, they're decimal numbers. You first have to convert them into time serial numbers by dividing them by (60*24). i.e. 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day.

See file attached.

To learn how Excel handles data and time see here: https://www.myonlinetraininghu.....e-and-time
