I encounter sometimes that it isn't possible to work in another excel document or opening a new excel document while a Excel Power Query is running.
Other times I can do what i want when a Excel Query is running.
Does someone can tell me what the reason can be why I sometimes can do anything in Excel ?
Do the documents have to be open in different instances of Excel before you can work in both documents at the same time? If so how can you do this. I thought by holding down the shift key when opening but i don't see a difference in the taskmanager if doying so.
or can the heaviness of the query a possible reason why it is not possible to work in another Excel document at the same time or are there other possible reasons?

Hi Marc,
Later versions of Excel open in separate but related windows by default. I'd say the issue you're experiencing is due to the heaviness of the query. I'm not aware of a way to avoid this, just like you can't use the Excel window when the Power Query editor is open.
