Dear Support

I use Microsoft 365 version of Excel and my colleague uses 2016. My ability to load an SQL Database into Power Query is seamless but my colleague does not seem to have the Get Data option under Data, it look different. She can access the database but it wants to load to a file and not open in Power Query. I have attached a word document of screen shots to illustrate the differences we see. I am hoping you can explain why my colleague cannot open a database directly into Power Query? We are both accessing the same database (not able to attach file as sensitive).

Regards Brenda Krol

Your colleague should be choosing Data - From other sources - from SQL server database (the first option).

Thank you for your response Velouria. We did use the first option initially but that did not give us a list of tables within the database, instead it went straight to load options. The data wizard at least gave us the tables to choose even though it didnt open in power query to allow transforming.

Apologies - that's the legacy method. You would actually want (now that I'm at my computer) Data - New Query - From Database - From SQL Server Database.

Thanks Velouria. I have solved the problem by upgrading to 365 and all works well now. Smile
