Hello Instructors,
I am using project codes, and while most of them are numbers, a few of them are combinations of numbers and letters. For example, 88800LI44 or 999020PP. I don’t want to split the numbers and letters, as i need the complete combination for other transformations. My preferred data type is to convert to text. However, once i converted it to text and loaded it into Excel, i received a message that these data types could not have been converted to number.
Attached and below is the pop-up message I got when loading the converted data into text in Excel. [Image Can Not Be Found]
”DataFormat.Error. We couldn’t convert to number”.
Please advise.
Hi Mohamed,
I can't reproduce your issue. If you have the data as text in Power Query then when you load it to Excel it should still be text.
At what point are you trying to convert it to number?
Can you please supply the data/file that you are using and getting the error in.
regards
Phil
Hi Phil,
Thank you for your prompt response. I was in the process of converting the data during the final stages of the data transformation. Initially, I was converting it to text. However, when I uploaded it to Excel, I encountered an error message stating that certain items could not be changed to numbers. This seemed strange as I never converted to Number, but I have now realized that the conversion to text has actually been successful.
Thanks you,
Mohamed
