Hello Mynda & Team!

I am actually enjoying your PowerQuery 2016 course, and I am stuck in the 7.06 Manage Parameters Lesson -  it seems like I cannot get around a date regional parameter error.

My date column is displayed ddmmm (where mmm have been converted to french) - and when trying to convert it to date, I get errors for all the months which don't start with the same 3 letters in both languages.

I have already tried to modify the my column type to date using regional parameters (both ENG-US and FR-Swiss) and to change my general parameters to ENG-US - restarted Excel and PowerQuery.

I know this will be a recurring problem  for me/us french users - so every trick will be cherished.

Best regards,

Genevieve

Hi Genevieve,

Great to hear you're enjoying the course!

I can't see the error message in the screenshot. Can you please click in the white space inside one of the error cells and show me the error that appears at the bottom of the Power Query window?

Before you do that though, try removing the 'Changed Type' step and then use 'Change type > using Locale' as covered in lesson 4.02.

If that doesn't work, please send the screenshot.

Thanks,

Mynda

Hello!

it says something like:

Data.Format.Error : Sorry, we coudn't parse the input provided as Date value.

Details: 2 fév.

I have tried changing the type using locale options - doesn't seem to help...

Hi Genevieve,

Thanks for the screenshots. I suspect it's the accent over the 'e' that is causing the issue. What happens if you insert a step before the error step that replaces fév with fev?

Hello Mynda - actually all the months which don't start with the same three letters cause problems -and it is imported like this already in the Source.

fév

avr

mai

juin

juil

aoû

déc

I have already tried to change my general parameters to ENG-US - restarted Excel and PowerQuery.

So it seems like there is no other way than doing it manually with a replace as a third step, after Source and expanding the data table...

Hi Genevieve,

I'm not sure what you mean by "all the months which don't start with the same three letters cause problems". Can you please share the URL you're using so I can test at my end.

Mynda
