Hi Mynda,
I'm back for another question.
Imagine I have 4 categories of items that are with a different value. Cate 1=0,25/categ 2= 0,50/ categ. 3= 0,75 and category 4=1.
I have to create a cumulate sum of all the different values (I have 4 different columns, but I think I can find a way to deal with this) my issue is that I have tried to make the sum of all the items open with all the different values and I was expecting to have a line more smooth than the initial line (originally every item was 1:1 now we have different ''weight'').
So long story short this is what I see, and of course is not correct.
Can you pls cast an eye and do let me now why I don't have a continuous line but a ''zig zag''one?
Thanks
Sally
this is one of the formula that i have tried to use to make the calculation, it return the correct number but is not plotted correctly.
Hi Sally,
Can you please upload an example Excel/Power BI file. My brain stopped visualising your description after the first sentence!
Thanks,
Mynda
Hi Mynda,
here you go.
What I was trying to do is sum all the items with a different value (weight) and have a line similar to the blue.
The white line is mine and is not correct as the trend is not like the blue.
The blue is cointing (cumulate) each item and is counting 1 per each item added in each month.
What I have to do is adjust the new line with weight.
I have tried to make the sum of all the items in multiple way but when I plot I see always the same shape and I believe is wrong. Any idea?
Thanks
Sally
Sorry, Sally, but I need the source data in an Excel file, please. If it's sensitive data, you can strip out everything but the x axis labels and the value columns and then explain by referring to the columns in the file exactly what you're trying to do.
If you know the values for the blue line, please also include these in a summary table that shows the values that make up the columns and blue line in the chart.
Note: what I can tell from the image is that the blue line is not the trend as it peaks towards the end, but the columns go down. It suggests to me that what you might be wanting is the cumulative position? If so, have you seen this tutorial: Power Pivot running totals.
Thanks,
Mynda
