We have some users who all have Excel 2016. The workbook has been shared using Review > Share Workbook. We have noticed that it occasionally will become "unshared". Only two users have the password to unshare so they will go in and have to share the workbook again. Things we have tried: We have saved the workbook under a new name, we have tried putting it in a new location, and have copied the data to a new workbook. There are other workbooks that are shared that are not having any issue. Any ideas where we can look to resolve this issue? We are using Windows 10 Enterprise and are up to date on all Windows Updates. Our systems are HP with 64 bit OS.
Hello Julie,
A strange problem indeed. The reasons to this kind of behaviour can of course be several, below scenario is based on my own experience of a similar issue.
We had our files saved in a shared folder which was mapped as a network drive. The drive mapping is done via a Group Policy Object. When setting such policy you can set how this drive mapping is to be handled when the GPO runs, i.e. to update or replace the network drive setting. In my experience the source of the problem was that it was set to replace the network drive. When changing the setting to update the issues we had with the files, for example shared workbook issues, were solved.
Good luck with finding the source to your issue!
Anders,
Thank you so much for your helpful insight. We have been migrating our departments to a new file server. We also just received the O365 updates last week which give us the ability to share using the desktop version of Excel. Our users are testing that out as a solution.
Again, I appreciate your assistance.
