Hello all,
I am not sure the exact solution I am looking for, but I have been asked to create some sort of a schedule visualization based on a given constraint.
I have a list of products that need to be worked. I have expected start dates and expected end dates based on the duration. Some of these dates will overlap each other. This seems like a basic gantt chart view would work, but I have an additional requirement to limit the number of products in work at any given time by a specific number.
Example: I have 10 products to work, but can only work 5 concurrently.
1-5 go into work at their respective start dates and their durations overlap each other during a portion of the work so #6 can't start until one of the other 5 (could be any of the 5) have finished.
Ultimately, my boss wants to be able to see schedule impacts of products that complete later than expected that then impact future work because it can't start until a "spot" opens up.
Any ideas on the best way to model/visualize this in Excel?
Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Hi Michael,
Start with this example then upload your test file here to see what can be done. You should be able to add another formatting rule with a specific color for items exceeding the first 5 active tasks.
