I want to compare the values in column a with values in adjacent cells and format those cells if greater than or less than value in column A

Hi Chuck,
The attached file contains an example with two conditional formatting rules to mark numbers greater (green) or less (red) than the one in column A.
Green: =B1>$A1
Red: =B1<$A1
both applied to $B$1:$F$8
