Hi Knowledge team, I have an issue with my living expenses category, which does not match up my budget line item with my actual. It has been duplicated, throwing out my overall figures and dashboard. How do I fix this?
Above is the sheet that shows when I click on the ($10,352) figures here:
Should I delete and start again for the four subcategories this affects? Any suggestions at all?
Thanks everyone
Rennae
Hi Rennae,
You shouldn't have to start again, but it's difficult to help you fix it without the file. Are you able to upload it here? Remove any sensitive information first.
Mynda
Hi Mynda, I have attempted to upload the file, but I keep getting a message "file type not allowed". I have saved the file without descriptions, as a .xlsx file. should it be something different? I am using an apple iBOOK with a M365 personal subscription. DO I need to change the file to a different version or extension? Or can I email it to you? Thanks Rennae
Mynda, I changed the file type to .xlsm. it is now attached. I have added in a running total column to the transactions page, so I can cross check the data against my back account verse having to download the data from my bank. I'm hoping this has not broken the file. Please see what you can do to assist me with ensuring that my living expenses are not duplicated, or not matching with the data. the rest of the data seems to be ok. Thanks again. Rennae
I've looked at the transactions data and conclude that the total spending of living expenses is indeed $20,596 as included in the report section. "Cats" and "Utilities" seem OK, but you have many duplications the loan amount of $113.34 (26 times in the year rather than the 12 budgeted) and $50 (24 times in the year rather than the 12 budgeted). Could these be bi-weekly payments?
Similarly for the savings goal. Regarding the latter it seems the budgeted monthly goal of $200 is a weekly goal in reality.
I assume that the transactions agree to your bank statements, but please check! If they do agree, then I your budget numbers simply aren't reflecting the expected flow of loan expenses and savings.
In any way, PQ or the creation of the pivot table reports has not caused the variance.
so how do i remove the duplicates? i have tried a number of times, but they are still showing? any ideas how I can fix this, or should I delete everything and start again. Sigh... Thanks Rennae
@rennae Well, how did the transaction get in there? Let's have a look at January for Loan.
There is an entry on 13 Jan for 113.34 and another on 27 Jan for the same amount. These are the same amounts but not duplicate entries as the dates differ. If not both are correct, which one is incorrect and how did it get into the table in the first place?
Hi Riny, OMGoodness, yes, I see now what my error has been. I have fixed up my budget, and this has now been reflected in the report page. Thank you so much. I think I was blinded by looking at it for so long; I was not seeing that my figures should have been fortnightly (bi-weekly), and monthly verse weekly data in the budget. Thanks so much for taking the time to assist me with understanding my data. Have a wonderful New Year Day. Rennae (Australia)
