Hi Mynda, i am exploring in using speedometer function to create a dashboard ultimately based on 2 factors (timeliness and accuracy).
However, i am not able to define the values into the speedometer yet. Could you kindly help to guide on speedometer. Also is there a tutorial on this under excel dashboard course?
For this the data(Attached sheet) are actually being extracted using "GETPIVOTDATA" from different tables and data sources.
From the retrieved data, the value should flow to the speedometer with "monthly" display of dashboard.
Let me know if above is unclear. i will try to explain further. I have drafted 2 ways to display the charts. Do advise too which is better in presentation.
Thank you so much for your time on this 🙂 hope to hear from you soon.
Regards,
Safirah
Hi Safirah,
Thanks for sharing your file.
I don't teach speedometer/gauge charts because these are not best practice for dashboards. They take up a huge amount of space to communicate only one value. This is why you need a huge area for your charts.
Looking at your file I see that you have data over time. Wouldn't you want to see how an area is tracking over time? A stacked area chart with a line for the value will do this for you. And for some of your areas you can put both timeliness and accuracy in the same chart since the tiers are the same. Although you may prefer to keep them separate for consistency and to allow for easier comparison to one another.
See example attached. I've set the fill colour to 50% transparency for one of the charts.
I would go with the DB1 layout.
