Hello everybody,
I am using Office 365 Pro Plus.
I created a dashboard composed by many pivot tables (from multiple tables), slicers and graphs.
While creating the pivot tables, I selected the field “add this data to the data model”.
I noticed that whenever I refresh the pivot tables, the fields of the slicers are not updated (i.e. I see "(blank)" field in the slicer, even If I filled each cell related to that column)
I made a test to understand the reason.
I just created new table with few rows and columns. Then I created new pivot table without selecting “add this data to the data model”. In this way I verified I was able to select “none” in “Retain items deleted from the data source section”.
Then I created a slicer. Even in this case I was able to check “show items deleted from the data source”.
I hope I was clear enough. So, how can I refresh all the slicers of my file ?
thanks

Hi,
It's quite complex to attach my file because there are tens of pivot tables and graphs and many source tables.
I tried to attach a file just to explain what happened.
There are some slicers that show (blank) fields even if there are not blank cells listed in their columns. Maybe before some changes I made in the source tables, there was that situation: blank cells in column Year (as I showed in the attached document).
After filling all the blank cells listed in column "Year", I refreshed all the pivot tables but the slicer still show (blank) field (even if the cells in pivot table, column Year, connected to the slicer, are not blank).
In fact, If I try to select blank field in the slicer, there are no results (= no rows)
I do not undestand

Hi Mark,
I understand what's happening, so unfortunately the file didn't help me troubleshoot. I am confident that the table your Slicer is assigned to (or a related table) will have a blank in the year column. Power Pivot doesn't retain data deleted from the model in the same way regular PivotTables do, hence why there isn't an option in the PivotTable Options to choose 'None' in the 'Retain items deleted from the data source'.
Check what table the Slicer is related to (you may have more than one table with a year field), go to the Year column and filter it for blanks. If there's no blank there, then it may be that you have related this Year field to another table that either has blanks or has a year that is not present in your Year slicer.
If you're still stuck, share a screenshot of your model diagram view so I can see the tables and how they're related.

I attached a screenshot showing the slicers I'm talking about.
Slicer 2 doesn't have "blank" cells in the column of the table, from which the data come from. Slicer 1 has "blank" cells. I do not understand why the slicer
Each of them is connected to same pivot tables, which contain data from unique database source.
I also attached the diagram view but niether connections nor hierarchies were created.

Hi Mark,
Please show me screenshots of your PivotTable field lists so I can see ALL of the tables the fields in your PivotTables are coming from. My guess is that you are using fields from more than one table in the PivotTable and as there are no relationships, the Slicer is filling in blanks where there is a mismatch in data.
Ideally, you'll share your file. This will be a long drawn out process otherwise.
