Has this been addressed?
I have exactly the same problem!
More information: I have in my workbook 2 datasources. The slicers connecting to pivot tables of one datasource (just a table) - do have the 'Use Custom Lists' checkbox option!
However, the slicers connected to pivot tables of the other datasource (OLAP - data model) - do not have this option!
Is that thus a limitation of using OLAP / data model?
Any workaround? This is hugely annoying!

Just found a reference to that:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-.....ustomlists
Seems indeed that this option is only available for non-OLAP
