I have attached a sample file as requested. What I'm looking for is a graphical display on a chart when the value for the product is '0'. Legend depicts 'Bottom 3' and unless I trick excel by posting a bogus value as in cell E2, no results appear.

There is nothing wrong in adding a dummy value to the chart like what you did.
If your data comes from a Pivot Table (and from your sample data, I believe it) then things will be a bit more difficult
What kind of graphical display are you expecting when the value is zero?
You could try a line chart with markers (with the line hidden). At least it will show a marker when the value is zero.
