Hi, I have attached a file with the question.
In the graph with numbers on the side, I need to display from 50,000 to 700,000, how do I do this?
also want to display only 50 / 700 without the zeros after the comma - how do you do it?
And also in data columns I want to display only thousands without the numbers after the comma.
Thanks for the answer, Leah

Hi Lea,

You can use custom number formats. Please see this tutorial on scaling numbers with custom number formats in Excel.

Let me know if you get stuck.

hi, I set the format #,##0,K to get an answer of 7K and it doesn't happen - why?

Thank you for answering the file.

In addition, numbers aside - how do you define that it will start from 50,000?

Hi Lea,

If you look at the underlying numbers in the Data table, you'll see they're already rounded to thousands, so what you're seeing in the chart labels is correctly rounded. e.g. cell J8 on the Data sheet contains the value:

93,527,000

When presented in thousands it will be:

93,527k

Which is what you see in the chart.

You should never start the vertical axis in a column or bar chart above zero because it distorts the data. We humans are programmed to subconsciously compare the heights of the columns to one another. If you start the axis above zero, you distort the difference in heights from one column to the next which can make it appear more severe than it actually is.

Hi Mynda,

I want to round the number 93,527 and display only 93 - how do I do this?
On the right side, instead of displaying 100,000K, I want it to display 100M, how do you do this?
It is true what you mentioned about starting a chart from 0. How do I define that the chart will start from 50,000?

Thank You!!!!
Leah
