Hello all, I need to build a chart that plots vendor details based on nearest contract expiry date (x axis) and funds remaining on contract (y axis). There are up to 4000 records in this data table so I believe I need to shorten this down significantly to make the chart details visible.
I played around with a couple charts but can't seem to find a good approach. The scatter diagram quickly limits the number of data points and will not allow for vendor details on hover. I tried the same with a line chart and similar results.
I have a similar outdated report that was built in Tableau which I'm trying to mimic. What would be my best approach here? Do I need two separate charts to accomplish this in Excel?
Does Mynda have a tutorial that would help? I recall seeing something on a date/progress chart but can't remember where. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Kelly,
Welcome to our forum!
I think labeling 4000 data points is probably not very useful. I recommend selecting the points you want highlighted and adding them in another series that you can colour different and add labels to. I've used a similar technique in this PivotTable Scatter Chart to highlight the sport selected in the Slicer. I hope that gives you some ideas.

Thanks so much for the reply Mynda! If I was to display the accounts closest to expiry on it's own chart, what would be the best chart to use to showcase this? I'm thinking it may be a clearer approach for the user to see the closest expiries in one chart and the accounts with lowest funds remaining in another. Thanks again for taking the time to help me on this. ๐
