How to tell excel that an entry is a specific month?

Hello,

i just created a smart table and used colums, one for month and one for year.

Problem is, that now the pivot table is not recognizing the month entries as "dates" as they are words and excel doesn't know which date that is.

What can i do, to keep the convenient level data input for my key users as they dont want to type in a specific date but just the month and the year per line, but also use timeline slicers for my dashboard.

Would it work with a helper column?

Yes, you could add a helper column using DATEVALUE and creating a date string that your regional settings can work with - for example (zB):

 

=DATEVALUE("1 "&[@Monat]&" "&[@Jahr])
