Dear All,

I keep running into an issue with PQ privacy settings. When I build my queries I mark appropriate settings and all is well. However, next day my users are trying to work with the files and they keep getting prompted for "information about data privacy" too. Most of my users don't know a thing about PQ and don't care to know. They think that the query is broken.

Is there a way to prevent this privacy issue from happening?

We work in Virtual Desktop environment and I wonder if this have anything to do with the issue. For example, my Formula Bar disappears every day, but I can deal with this. The privacy setting issue is a major annoyance.

Thank you,

Blanka

Hi Blanka,

You have two options;

1. Set the query to Fast Combine: https://support.office.com/en-.....8;fromAR=1

There are risks with this.

2. use the technique described here: http://www.excelguru.ca/blog/2.....-settings/

Hi Mynda,

Thank you for your reply.

I did go the Fast Combine route, but the file still asked for the privacy setting.

I may have to try the macro technique, which isn't optimal either because that would require to have all the affected files converted to macro-enabled.

Thank you again.

Another option is to educate the users on what to select; either in person, or put a 'read this' note at the front of the file that explains the process.

This happened to me as well. I solved it by loading the data from PQ into excel tables, and then used those tables as the data source for the end user’s dashboard. No more privacy settings issues! Also made the end users dash load more quickly, because all the transformations were done on my data tables, so the end user’s dashboard pulled from a neatly formatted table that could be loaded mostly as-is.

I love Power Query!

I know that this is an old post but i have encountered the same issue and didn't find any resolution

i loaded the SharePoint data to Excel using the export to excel option and used the power query on this data but:

1. it didn't resolve the privacy issue for other users no mater if i used the combine option or Ignore the privacy level option

2. The data from SharePoint had to be refreshed and the file had to be saved before i could use the power query other wise it would not have been an updated data

Did you find a good solution for this issue?
