A question for the group.
I am running my queries from a laptop and finding it slow to run larger data sets.
Yes I have followed some of the posts about increasing PQ processing speed but I due for a new laptop and with the EOFY approaching I am wanting to know if a high spec laptop will help or is it just a case of data takes time to process, have another cuppa.
Appreciate some feedback from any who has had this experience
Cheers

Hi Tony,
Please read this post on speeding up Power Query refresh times for tips on things to try before purchasing a new laptop.

Thanks Mynda,
Always great tips in these posts and much appreciated, I have already used most of them but have opened every thread to go over and check them all again.
In any case, I am due for a new laptop so if you or anyone has any comment on my presumption that a higher spec with help processing performance and thoughts on the specs I should target if that is the case then I would be happy to get the feedback.
Cheers

Hi Tony,
I'm no hardware expert, but this post has some discussion on specs for running Power BI, which will also apply to Power Query in Excel as Power BI uses Power Query for it's get and transform data processes.
Of course, if your data is coming from a database or external server, then the server performance will also have a knock on effect to how fast Power Query can process your queries. You might like to run your queries on a higher spec PC if possible to test your theory.
As a benchmark, my PC has a 3.70GHz CPU and 16GB Ram.
You'll also want to instal 64 bit Office as opposed to 32 bit.

Thanks again Mynda.
I will look into that but thought I would add in one more note that makes me wonder what the refresh delay is all about - query vs hardware vs whatever someone more experienced can tell me.
I just did a minor update and changed the merging and duplication of a couple of columns in my query and then save and close to refresh the data but cancelled that after 25 minutes of nothing but the spinning wheel and have waited longer too many times.
When I save and close the work book, then re opened and refresh the queries it process the data in just under 10 minutes. I'm not sure how queries and measured so to speak but the input data is 20 columns x 12,750 rows and the query is cleaning this data to generate an output of 33 columns x 8375 rows and is a 6 MB file.
I just do the close and restart as a matter of course so not sure if there are any other tips or ideas.
Cheers.
