Greetings, Mynda.

At the bottom of my Get & Transform "Merge" dialog, I don't have the drop-down list of six Join Kind options that you demo in this module. Instead, all I see is a check box that reads Only include matching rows.

I have Office updates set to automatic so assume I'm using the latest version of Excel 2016.

Do you know what might account for my missing Join Kind list?

Thanks much!
Paula

Hi Paula,

Go to File-Account.

In the right side, you will see Office product informations and a dropdown for Updates. Click on Update Now, to make sure you have the latest version.

Let us know if the problem is still there after this update.

On the same window: File Account, under Updates, there is a button named: What's New. You can use it if you're curious to see what was improved in this update.

Cheers,

Catalin

Thanks much! Unfortunately, I'm using a version administered by my university and I don't have the option to get latest updates myself. Guess I'll have to go begging to them. Appreciate the advice, however. Cheers!

Thanks! And, just as a followup... Using an institutional copy of Excel limits my options. However, I found that upgrading to Windows 10 gives me the option to set not only automatic updates for Windows but also for "other files", which includes at least some of the Power Query features I've been missing.

I now have the list of join types, but my version doesn't allow me to use the nice Data Catalog Search query type!

Hi Paula,

Initially there were two data catalogs in Power Query, one that was sharing corporate data and the other that had some free public data (mostly based on Wikipedia). Both were accessed through the same menu.

In 2016 due to no additional content being available for the public catalog, it was discontinued and Microsoft are looking for a replacement technology.

The public catalog that is available in Power Query now is the corporate one which requires a Power BI licence.
