hi
I've been playing with the FB options in PQ and how can I get data on a group that I am admin of? Thanks. I've connected to my own account in FB but want to see how I can analyse group data...thanks.
Hi Ann,
Facebook changed their API in April 2015 and now it is only possible to get data from pages you own. It seems the group URL no longer contains the Group Object ID, which is required by Power Query.
This post shows you how to find out the Group Object ID: https://bariseris.wordpress.com/2014/05/08/excel-power-query-how-to-get-a-facebook-groups-object-id/
This post explains how to get data from Facebook using Power BI (which also uses Power Query) and mentions the update to the API so the steps explained here may still work (just follow the Power Query parts):
I'm not sure if either of those will still work.

Choose connection as you need, choose comments, or Feed, and expand all the tables, to see what they contain. You can group and count friends by gender, year, you can count their posts, comments, even the applications used, it's a very rich database, the limit is just imagination 🙂
Cheers,
Catalin
OOh, let me try this..I am not the owner of the group but I am the admin so let me check out these steps...thanks a mil 🙂
OK, I just want to get clear on this. I go to the Facebook feed. (I've set up a connection to my own account). I put the group ID in the first box and then chose feed. This is the answer I got...
[DataSource.Error] The returned value has no columns.
Then I tried to pull in Friends and I got the same response.
I had a look at the PowerBI link and the PQ option pre-supposes I *have* the data...but the rest of it looks really exciting 🙂
Any suggestions? What am I missing?
