Query does not apply edits in Data view

Hi there,

I am bringing in data from Salesforce and making a few edits in the query portion of PowerBI Desktop. The problem is that I cannot get my query edits to apply to the data. I edit my query and, for example, try to remove duplicates, then click "Close and Apply." In my data view, the edits are not made. But if I go back to edit the query, they are visible. I have tried this with moving columns around too--the changes show up fine in my query but not in the data view. Am I missing something here? This is preventing me from being able to continue working with my data, building relationships, etc.

Thanks!

Mary

Hi Mary,

Moving columns in the query editor does not feed through to the data view/table view in Power BI. The field list in the report view is sorted alphabetically anyway, so it's not worth your time worrying about this.

In regards to the duplicates not being removed; can you send screenshots of the query with the steps applied and proof that there aren't any duplicates and then show me the data view with the duplicates still in situ. Or share your file so I can look at this more closely. It's not normal but I can't say why it would be ignoring your changes.

Hi Mynda, here is a link to my file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yq8n16zvkt0n3qd/Survey%20Results.pbix?dl=0

The data in question is the "Account Names - SF" (pulled from Salesforce). I am trying to build a relationship between the Account ID from that table and the Account ID in my "Survey Feedback" table. I can tell that my duplicates have not been removed because, when I try to create a relationship, PowerBI says that one of the columns must have unique values. I can also copy the data into Excel and it finds several duplicates.

Hi Mary,

It appears to be a bug. I wasn't able to look at the query because I don't know your Salesforce login, but I was able to copy the Account Names - SF table out of Power BI and into Excel, and then load it back into Power BI and remove the duplicates without any problem.

The issues is with your Salesforce connected query. The M code looks correct so I can only think it's a bug of sorts. You can log it here:

In the meantime, you can load the data from Excel or CSV as a temporary solution.

Please let me know if you don't get a response to your "Issue" post and I'll escalate it with Microsoft through my MVP contacts.
