Hi,

I am creating an financial report in Power Bi. I'd like to compare the actual figure this year to last year, and work out the % difference.

In the data table, revenue is negative and Expense shows as Positive number, so when I try to work out the percentage, I can only get either Revenue or expense right. if you look at my example, Revenue this year is $1600 and last year was  $950, so it is 68% ahead which is correct.

however, if you look at expense this year is $1000 and last year was $300, it is 233% behind, I'd like it shows as -233% rather than 233%

would you please help with correcting this error?

Thank you.

Regards,

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Technically the calculation is correct, however I understand the issue is more to do with whether the line is revenue or expense. As an accountant myself, I understand what you're after and why, however I don't cover this in my course. Please refer to this post by fellow MVP, Imke Feldman which explains one possible solution. I hope that points you in the right direction.
