Really appreciated getting a reply from my previous first post, WOW – didn’t expect that THANKS
Any best practices when moving columns in an Excel table?
Excel seems to have a mind of its own with data validation, data formatting, definitely column widths create challenges (but I get that), and I think table column referenced formulas (but I could be wrong).
I’ve tried creating new columns, copy & pasting before deleting old & renaming new column, clearly not the best practice.
Are there any table column moving “best practices” that one should be aware of, could you please advise?
Look forward to any help.

If your data is in its final presentation mode and you do not need to maintain formulas in the output, then I would recommend using Power Query to rearrange your data. Any changes tot he original data (source) would be maintained and updated by selecting Refresh All. The output would be updated correctly.

Thanks Alan,
Data is in entry mode & would like to move columns in a more logical order.
Been put off this by weird stuff happening with data formatting & validation.

Hi Ian,
You should be fine to cut and paste or select the column and left click and drag holding the SHIFT key to insert the column in its new location. If you get some funky stuff happen, come back and share your file and steps so we can reproduce the issue and help further.
