Hello,
I am having issues creating a questionnaire/form for our staff in Excel. I would like the form to expand automatically when staff enter text as answers to the questions. I do not want staff to have to modify the spreadsheet or format it. I am unable to come up with a solution. I have tried text boxes and merging cells but I am unable to get excel to automatically format the cells or text boxes where text is entered without issues. Text boxes for example can be made to resize automatically with text, but they then overlap the next question or questions on the form. Merged cells have to be manually adjusted if text entered is too lengthy.
Any suggestions to solve this problem would be appreciated. I would prefer to keep the form in excel versus word as it is one tab in a larger file used for estimating job costs.

Hi
Without a copy of your form it is very difficult for anyone to help.
If you can attach a copy of the form with the issues and your expected solutions, it will help considerably.
You can take a look at the attachment and see if this is what you are looking for (I am only guessing here).
It contains a macro that auto fit rows should there be any changes in a cell.
My assumption is that your questions will be down a single column only.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply. Your file is appreciated and may work as an alternative for me. However, I would prefer to have the excel file format itself automatically versus be required to run a macro. The questionnaire is for various staff working on job estimating and I would prefer them not having to modify the file. I can get the text boxes to expand in Word, but not in excel. I could use a separate word file for this piece of the estimating process I would rather include the questionnaire as a tab within the larger estimating excel file.
I have attached a sample file with two tabs. The first uses merged cells and the second uses text boxes. In both cases I seem to be unable to get the answer sections, shaded light blue, to expand automatically as text is entered without overlapping the following questions.
Any suggestions for better alternatives would be very much appreciated. Thanks to all!

Hi Millhouse
Wrapping text in a single cell will cause the cell to auto expand. See example attached.

Hi again,
Thank you! This will work fine 🙂 I see my mistake now. I was merging cells and rows and in doing so, that would not allow the area to expand. Using one cell and wrapping the text accomplishes this. Terrific! This was driving me a little nuts. I don't often run into problems will excel I cannot solve. Thank you again.
