I do not see slicers and other buttons on the design tab for my pivotTables- do I have to get an add-in? (I can find an insert slicer icon in the custom tabs section, but it can only be added to a custom group. What gives?

Hi Fred,
It looks like you're using Excel 2010, in which case you'll find the icon to insert a Slicer on the Insert tab of the ribbon. In fact, in all versions of Excel you'll find it on the Insert tab. In some versions it's also on other tabs.
In Excel 2010 it may also be on the PivotTable Options tab, but I don't have that version of Excel any more in order to check.
