Hi team,
I created a line chart and slicer (pivotchart from data model), selected all the series and formated the lines as smoothed lines, added data labels, markers set to white for each series. When I then selected one or two series from the slicers the formatting disappears on most of the series. Only one or two lines are smoothed, and some of the markers remain.
I have recreated the chart several times but the same thing happens.
If I create a column chart and format, the formatting remains...
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a bug, is there a fix?
Thanks
Tracy.

Hi Tracy,
Make sure you clear all the filters in the Slicers for the Chart before formatting. The formats should then stick. However, if the slicers result in series disappearing from the chart, then the formatting on those series will be lost. It's a 'feature' of Pivot Charts.
A workaround is to create a regular chart from a PivotTable.

Hi Mynda,
Many thanks for the reply.
I had cleared all filters in the slicers before formatting. The series are constant (TV stations: SABC1, 2 & 3) in my chart. The slicers change the date and dayparts. Formatting still disappears. It's a mystery to me.
However, I used your workaround - Bait & Switch for the line chart and it works.
Many thanks.

Hi Mynda,
Further to this, I am having the same issue now with my bar charts. When I add new data and refresh and select the new month (April), my bar charts lose all the formatting. When I click back to the old data that I created the chart with (Feb/Mar), the formatting comes back. I've never had this issue before, and I've created hundreds of dashboards.
I have just purchased a new laptop and had all my programmes cloned from my old machine, including Office 365. Do you think I should delete and re-download Office?
I'm doing this dashboard for a client and I can't have the formatting change when they start dowloading new data every month.
Thanks
Tracy.

Hi Tracy,
It won't be your laptop that's the problem. When slicers/filters remove series from the chart, the custom formatting is sometimes lost, which is why you want to ensure there are no filters before setting up the formats.
It's hard to say without seeing your file as to whether this is a bug or a result of how you built the charts. You're welcome to email me the file if it's confidential and I can take a look, but it might be a case of the way you want the charts to work, won't support custom formats with Pivot Charts and you therefore, need to do the bait and switch technique.
