Everyone knows they should back up the data on their PC right? Yet every year 43% of computer users lose their documents, photos, email, music and more.
How can this be? You back up don't you? You're not in that 43%?
In my experience the majority of people either don't know how to do it, think it’s too hard, or stick their head in the sand and hope their hard drive will never fail. But your hard drive is a mechanical device, it will fail eventually.
And if you think backing up to another hard drive or a USB or a CD/DVD that you store in your office is enough, think again. What if your computers and equipment was stolen, what if your office caught on fire or flooded and everything was destroyed. What would you do then?
Well, there's an easy solution. Carbonite is a program that backs up your data without you having to do anything. Once installed on your PC it just sits their quietly making sure your important documents, photos, email and other files are safely stored offsite. Using an encrypted connection to make sure your data can't be read by anyone you don't want, it copies your files to Carbonite's secure servers. There they sit, safe until such time as you may need to restore them back to your PC. Even if your current PC dies and goes to PC heaven, you can restore your files back to your new PC very easily.
Sounds great, but how much does Carbonite cost? Well, first let me ask you how much is your data worth? Before you answer let me tell you that if your hard drive does die, and you want your PC returned to you with a new hard drive, installed with Windows, all your programs installed and your data restored back to the new PC, you wouldn't get much change out of $500. If you really, really needed the data on your PC and it was particularly difficult to recover, you could be looking at several thousand dollars to recover it.
At time of writing Carbonite costs only £41.95 AUD$71.95 USD$54.95 per year. It’s a bargain. It’s what I use personally, and I install it for my clients because it’s so easy to use.
