Hi Tony,
There's no way to disable a query refresh, other than to close the query editor with the 'x' in the top right of the window and choose 'Discard' changes.
I guess if you're editing a query then it makes sense that you'll want your changes to be reflected in the data, whether that be in the worksheet or data model.
If you're loading your data to the data model (Power Pivot) then you can disable the refresh of any PivotTables attached to this model with this tool:
